my p-e-a-c-e model for inclusion in facilitation
The events of 2020 emphasized the value of inclusion and hearing diverse voices. As a professional facilitator, I have been using a mental model that I call P-E-A-C-E in my workshop design and implementation. Each letter of P-E-A-C-E involves one or multiple processes that are fundamental to inclusion and the enhancement of planning, execution, and bottom-line profitability or success.
P – Perspective – Think of the principle of the beach ball, recognizing that any topic can be viewed and understood from multiple perspectives.
E – Equality – Deliberating taking the time to hear all voices can lead to richer awareness, understanding, planning and vision.
A – Assessment – Change relies on people. Assess and measure impacts on workers and implementers before and during planning and execution.
C – Consistency – Agile design and design thinking teach us to methodically seek the voice of the customers and workers to know how to improve.
E – Engage – Avoid “planning in a vacuum” and the notion that no plan survives first contact by openly engaging unique voices to gain unique views.
Please help me test out the P-E-A-C-E Model and let me know what you learn!
